Book Holdings

Books on Pan-African Studies can be found in both the Granville A. Bunton African American Collection, as well as woven throughout the larger main book collection, in both print and electronic format.

The Granville A. Bunton African American Collection is dedicated to the celebration and presentation of the African American tradition. The collection holds over 6600 books on Africa and Africans that relate to the history and the study of people of African descent living in the Americas and the Caribbean. Literature, broad anthologies and works of Pan African and African American literature and criticism that cover groups of authors or the body of African and African-American literature are found in this collection. The collection is housed on the 3rd floor of Ekstrom Library.  A list of books located in that collection can be found below.

Since Pan-African Studies is a multidisciplinary field, one must consider the broader discipline your research topic is associated with in order to find books in the larger main collection.   Targeted keyword and subject searches using established subject headings can help narrow your results. Library of Congress Subject Headings relating to African Americans (PDF) can be found on pages 90-102.
