Examples CONSTANCE PREMNATH DASS (1886-1970) / The Alumnae Association of Isabella Thoburn College, Lucknow, India, takes this opportunity to honour Mrs. Constance Premnath Dass who was the first Indian President of their alma mater. / Mrs. Dass was President of Isabella Thoburn College from 1939 to 1944. She was born in the same year, 1886 that Miss Thoburn opened the first college class. A Phi Beta Kappa from Goucher, Mrs. Dass earned a Master's degree from Allahabad University and a second one from Columbia University. Two honorary degrees were awarded to her - an Ll.D from Goucher and a Ph.D from Boston University. 'Mrs. Dass was not chosen merely because she is an Indian,' wrote Dr. Shannon, her predecessor in 1939, 'but because the interests and ideals of the college may safely be trusted to her and the students find in her those qualities of character and leadership which will command their loving respect and loyalty.' After her impressive inauguration Bishop Robinson remarked 'And the nice part of it is she's just as beautiful within as she is without......'
