Definition Describes an image of or taken in an inhabited place incorporated as a city, town, etc.
Usage

Use the correct form of the place name when available in Library of Congress Authorities.

For renamed cities, enter the new place name in this field. (The title and/or description should contain the name used when the photo was taken.)

Use this field for smaller cities in Jefferson County, Kentucky that do not have Louisville in their authority name (e.g. Saint Matthews (Ky.); Buechel (Ky.)). Refer to LOJIC Neighborhoods, Municipalities, and Places.

Do not use “Unknown”—just leave the field blank.

If an authoritative version of a name is not available, create an AACR2-compliant heading:

  • City (St.) – although note that there are exceptions, such as Indiana (Ind.) and New York (N. Y.), so look for examples of authority names from the same state.
Examples
