Positive Exposure: Jay

Jay's Story

Jay is a first-generation college student majoring in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting Studies at UofL. They hold an Associate of Applied Science degree in ASL and are passionate about sign language, stating, “ASL is more than just a language; it has its own culture.” Outside of academics, they train in Kenpo and serve as the PR Chair for the Disabled Cards United Club. Jay believes in reshaping perceptions of disability, sharing, “It’s not necessarily a bad thing to have a disability; it’s not weird or the way everyone describes it.”
