Events

34th Annual African American Read-In

University Libraries are partnering with the English department and the National Council of Teachers of English for the National African American Read-In (AARI). Established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month, the AARI will be held at Ekstrom Library on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 10am - 2pm. Participants from across campus and the community will read excerpts from works by their favorite Black authors. The event will have free books and book raffles, but individuals must be present to win. To sign up for a reading time, please contact Joan D'Antoni at joan.dantoni@louisville.edu or 852-6801. Walk-ins are accepted.

 

AARI

African American History Film Series

The HSC Office of Diversity and Inclusion in partnership with the Louisville Free Public Library (LFPL) and Louisville Public Media are proud to present the 6th, annual African American History Film Series. Every Sunday during Black History Month at 1:30 p.m., the LFPL main branch will host a film presentation and panel discussion led by Karen Krigger, director of health equity, Office of HSC Diversity and Inclusion. These events are free and open to all.

Black Faculty & Staff Association (BFSA)

The mission of the Black Faculty/Staff Association is “to promote unity, provide support and build community among Black faculty, staff, and students at the University of Louisville. In addition, through advocacy and collaborative efforts, BFSA exists to enhance communication and champion diversity, inclusion, opportunity and social justice—while challenging racism—within the University, with our Black alumni and broader Black community.”

Black Student Union

The mission of the Black Student Union (BSU) is "to stimulate and promote the intellectual, political, social, and cultural health of the campus community as a whole, with a focus on the issues impacting African American students and other underrepresented groups. BSU in the "umbrella" organization of African American student & organizations. They provide a resource clearing house for the social, financial, cultural, and advocacy needs on campus."

Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality (CODRE)

The Commission on Diversity and Racial Equality (CODRE) serves as the president’s policy advisor on issues of diversity at the University of Louisville.
