What is DMPTool?
It is a free, open-source, online application that helps researchers create data management plans (DMP). These plans are now required by many funding agencies as part of the proposal submission process.
How to Use DMPTool?
- Get an account at https://dmptool.org (UofL is an affiliated institution, choose option 1. Your Institution)
- See instructions on DMPTool website.

How to Integrate ORCID iD with DMPTool
- Sign in to DMPTool with your ULink ID (choose option 1. Your Institution first)
- Click on your name to see the pull-down menu
- Click on "3rd party applications"
- Click on the link, "Create or Connect your ORCID iD
- Follow the instructions on the screen to sign in or create your ORCID account
- You should now see your ORCID iD link shown on your DMPTool's 3rd party applications page
Integration Benefits
DMPs are a defined work type within an ORCID record and are listed on an individual’s ORCID record. When a DMPTool user “Registers” their plan, a DMP ID is generated, and this record is automatically pushed to ORCID and included as a work on their ORCID profile page.
