Need someone to help you add your works to your UofL Folio?

Please see the following instructions on how to do it.

In UofL Folio

UofL Folio allows you to set up an emulate user to access your UofL Folio account, which is helpful for assistance such as troubleshooting problems or accepting publications provided by IDS or imports via other methods.

To emulate a user, do the following:

  1. On the Admin section of the navigation menu, click Administration.
  2. In the Tools section, click Emulate User. The Emulate User screen displays.
  • Locate the user you wish to emulate by using the filters in the Count By Unit section, then selecting the appropriate unit. The results are displayed in the Search Names Below field. If necessary, use the search field to locate the desired user within the search results.
  • Upon locating the desired user, click the user's name. A confirmation message opens.

  • Click OK. You are now emulating the selected user.

After the page loads, it should show the name of the user that you are emulating at the top of the screen in a red box.

  1. To exit the emulation, click Exit Emulation at the top-right corner of the screen.

In ORCID

(Note: You don't need to do this if you do not have an ORCID account or do not need to export works from ORCID.)

A trusted individual can do the followings:

  • Update your ORCID record
  • Make connections to external systems

A trusted individual does not do the followings:

  • May not edit anything that requires you to enter your ORCID password (such as adding email addresses, resetting your password, and deleting your account (which requires access to your email.

UofL Folio

Can I delegate someone to update publications for me in UofL Folio?

Yes.  You would need to create an emulation account for the designated person. Please see tab "Add a Trusted Individual" for how-to instructions.

If I rejected a publication by accident when using the Interfolio Data Services (IDS), will the system put it back for review again?

No. Once a publication is rejected, it is removed from the system and will not be back on the list for review. You would need to manually enter the citation in the proper section in UofL Folio.

ORCID

Can I use my ULink ID to sign in to both UofL Folio and ORCID?

No. UofL's single sign-on (SSO) is not compatible with the ORCID authentication system. You need to sign in to each system separately. You may keep your ORCID login the same as your ULink ID, but it is not recommended.

Can I delegate someone to update my ORCID record?

Can I have all the citations of my publications automatically added to my ORCID account?

No. You may import the citations in bulk via the link wizards for Search and Link under Works in ORCID. Publications will only be automatically added to your ORCID record if your ORCID iD is included in the work metadata for either CrossRef, DataCite, Publons, or directly from the publisher.

Can I have ORCID automatically updated to my UofL Folio account when I have new publications?

No. Currently, the import from ORCID to UofL Folio cannot be automated. You would need to run the import process manually.

What is peer review?

In academia, peer review refers to the evaluation of work by one or more reviewers with similar competencies as the producers of the work. Peer review is used to maintain quality standards, improve performance, and provide credibility. Peer review helps the academic publisher decide whether the work should be accepted, considered acceptable with revisions, or rejected for official publication in an academic journal, a monograph, or in the proceedings of an academic conference.

Peer review can also be called:

  • blind peer review
  • scholarly peer review
  • refereeing or refereed

Ways to Verify whether a Journal is Peer-Reviewed

  1. Check with Ulrich's Periodicals Directory
  2. Check with the journal's website (editorial processes)
