Overview: The roof on the east side of Ekstrom Library will be replaced. American Roofing, a local contractor with significant experience at UofL, will be the contractor. (This is a separate project from the McConnell Archives/ Ekstrom Library Expansion, but will there will be some overlap between the two projects.)
Start Date: End of March / Beginning of April 2024
Duration: Estimated completion is 2-3 months from start date.
Logistics:
- Staging and Material Delivery:
- Material delivery will be facilitated by crane. They’re hoping that delivery will be on the north side, utilizing the newly paved Speed loading area.
- A debris chute will be attached to the south side near the emergency generator by the card entrance. A dumpster will also be placed in that area for debris collection.
- Access to Roof:
- Exterior scaffolding will not be used due to space constraints, ensuring all exterior building handicap ramps remain accessible.
Sequencing:
- Sections of the roof will be removed late at night or early in the morning with replacement sections added the same day, contingent on favorable weather forecasts. No sections will be left open and exposed to rain.
- The new roof will be cold applied, eliminating the use of hot tar and associated odors. However, there may be occasional odors due to selectively used adhesives.
