The expansion project aims to accommodate the growth of the McConnell Archives and enhance the facilities of Ekstrom Library. This includes providing growth space for the McConnell Archives on the lower level, expanding student seating on the first floor, and relocating Ekstrom’s Technical Services Department and University Libraries employee break room to the second floor.
The construction is scheduled to commence on May 1, 2024, and is estimated to be completed by June 27, 2025.
The expansion will connect to the existing structure on the lower level, first floor, and second floor on the south side of the building facing the Law School parking lot.
During the construction period, users can anticipate potential higher levels of traffic and activity around the building, staging areas for the contractor utilizing some space in the Law School parking lot and on the south lawn of the building, and some construction-related noise.
Efforts are being made to minimize the impact of the expansion project on normal operations. However, users should be prepared for potential disruptions and noise due to construction-related activities. Every effort will be made to communicate with building stakeholders in advance of potential disruptions to building operations.
Staging areas for the contractor will utilize some space in the Law School parking lot. Users are advised to anticipate potential changes in parking arrangements and to plan accordingly. Please direct parking-related questions to Gary Becker in University Parking and Transportation Services.
• The design and construction team are working to minimize the impact on campus aesthetics and landscaping. A leading goal throughout the design and planning phase has been to preserve the existing mature cypress tree near the construction site. Plans also include measures to restore landscaping and add aesthetic enhancements upon project completion.
Every effort will be made to maintain access to the library during the construction period. However, there may be temporary closures or alternative access routes due to construction activities. Users are encouraged to stay updated on any changes through official communications.
The expansion project aims to enhance facilities and services for students and library users by providing additional space for the McConnell Archives, expanding student seating areas, and relocating certain departments to better serve the community.
