Library Research Resources for Hybrid and Online Courses: Information Literacy Instruction

Synchronous Instruction

teaching

Librarians can teach a library instruction session online in real time in Blackboard Collaborate or elsewhere. Just like with in-person library instruction, we will work with you to tailor instruction to your research assignment and student needs on topics like research strategies, evaluating information, understanding scholarly sources, and searching general and subject-specific databases.

Tentative fall plan: Our preferred method of delivering synchronous instruction in the fall is online. However, we will accommodate in-person instruction requests if an appropriate space is available and proper safety precautions (i.e. masks, social distancing) can be followed.

Contact: Use the Instruction Request Form to schedule a date and time for synchronous instruction. Select Online (Synchronous) under "Where will this instruction take place?" You can also contact your department's Liaison Librarian or Amber Willenborg to schedule instruction.

Timeframe: Please schedule instruction at least one week in advance to ensure adequate preparation time and librarian availability.

Custom Vidoes

undefined

We can record a custom screen-capture video tailored to your research assignment and  student needs, covering topics like generating keywords, searching in general or subject-specific databases, and evaluating information. We'll work with you to determine the content of your video.

Custom Video Examples:

ELFH 693 - Finding Scholarly Articles in ERIC

ENGL 102 - Generating Keywords & Searching Databases

Contact: Use the Instruction Request Form to request a custom video. Select Online (Asynchronous) under "Where will this instruction take place?" You can also contact your department's Liaison Librarian or Amber Willenborg to get started with a custom video.

Timeframe: Please request your custom video at least one week in advance to ensure adequate time for the librarian to work with you on the video.

Interactive Tutorials

Online test

An interactive tutorial allows your students to get hands-on experience with library research skills by guiding them through a process step by step. Just like with videos, we'll work with you to determine content that best meets the needs of your students. Tutorials also give you the option of receiving student scores after completion.

Custom Tutorial Examples:

ECPY 302 - Library Research Module

PSYC 302 - Literature Search Activity

Contact: Use the Instruction Request Form to request an interactive tutorial. Select Online (Asynchronous) under "Where will this instruction take place?" You can also contact your department's Liaison Librarian or Amber Willenborg to get started with an interactive tutorial.

Timeframe: Please request custom tutorials ten days in advance to allow adequate time for the librarian to work with you on tutorial content.
