SOC 454 Social Stratification

Introduction to this Guide

This guide is designed to help you research for your Reducing Inequality Paper where you'll focus on one of three types of inequality:

  1. Race
  2. Class
  3. Gender

You'll focus on the way people have sought to reduce this inequality through means such as social movements or public policy efforts.

The Layout of this LibGuide is designed to help you find several types of information that will inform your research on one of these forms of inequality:

  • Background Information on your focus, which can be found in news, encyclopedias, books, and even some statistics, is designed to give you a well-rounded view of a type of inequality. Of course, you'll already have some background knowledge of this from course readings!
  • Information on Social Movements & Public Policy, whose effectiveness you'll be examining at curbing one of these types of inequality
  • Journal Articles, which will be helpful to search after you've decided on your policy or social movement, because you can research the policy's effectiveness
  • Statistics, which can help inform you of prior states of inequality on your issue as well as current states of this inequality.
