Gold stars flow through each page, one star for each person whose life was permanently altered by the school closings"--Publisher's statement at the Vamp and Tramp Booksellers' website, viewed on February 13, 2015.

In celebration of the hundredth anniversary of the Vandercook proof press, thirty artists were invited to submit a sample of their work with a description of their technique. These samples include text and illustrations using a variety of methods and printing surfaces. Five unbound pamphlets of Vandercook exercises and procedures, three of which -- Vandercook troubleshooting, hand composition, and printing type and polymer -- were created by students during three separate workshops at the Center for Book Arts in New York and are housed in a printed wrapper.

Limited edition of 25 numbered copies, Art Library has cop 11. "Vita defuncta is a response to the poem 'Patterns' by Amy Lowell. The poem speaks of loss in war vs natural death as seen in nature. War is a recurring cycle, but unlike nature, which brings change and growth through the seasons, war only brings death ... In my response, language and symbolic representations are intertwined with the images, encompassing both the masculine and feminine aspects of the poem. The rectangular red form turns into a bloodstain by the end of the book. Once opened, one views a perfectly manicured pattern of a white flower like form, (referencing the stylized structure of an English garden) holding the pages. The colors, the texture of the papers and the structure, are all used to reflect the aspects of the poem."--Artist's website, viewed Dec. 28, 2012.

Wild girls redux: an operator's manual / Ellen Knudson / Art Library Rare Books Collection - N 7433.4 .K6258 W5 2009 box 4.1

Limited edition of 100 copies, signed by the artist. Art Library has copy 41. "The revisit of a book created almost 12 years ago. The original book, How to Become One of the Original Wild Girls, was designed and printed in 1997. That book is a playful list of imaginary 'rules' that 'should' be followed to achieve Wild Girl status. The rules are light-hearted, but they have the sting of recognition that most women realize to be sexist in nature. Wild Girls Redux reexamines these issues, using motorcycle road and driving rules as text along with images of pin-up girls and industrial schematic illustrations ... The intent of the "Operator's Manual" is tongue-in-cheek and provides the ordinary, mechanical, and absurd rules of how to operate women"--Publisher's Web site (viewed Oct. 14, 2009).

Limited edition of 50 copies, signed by the artist, Art Library has copy 33. "Women dream is an exploration of issues that I have thought about much of my adult life. My work is driven by common themes that are explored through a wide range of readings then given concrete form, usually as a book. Much of my reading has focused upon the similarities and differences between Judaism, Christianity and Islam with a current focus on gender. Although I have used Arab words, the text is a combination of my thoughts as well as Judeo-Christian and Muslim based verse and/or concepts ... The foundation for this book can be traced directly to Fatima Mernissi's Dreams of Trespass."--Colophon.

"This is a facsimile reprint of copy #50 of the original letterpress edition"--Colophon. Calling attention to the visual materiality of the text, this book attempts to halt linear reading, trapping the eye in a field of letters which make a complex object on the page. The work both embodies and discusses language as a physical form. --Granary Books.
