Limited ed. of 25 signed and numbered copies, Art Library has copy 11. Includes the text of William Stafford's poem A ritual to read to each other on inside cover flap. "This book was created in reaction against the US/Iraq and Afghanistan war. The two-dimensional woodcut image that makes up the tunnel structure was originally titled, 'Peace Inside the Noise' and was meant to stand on it own. As a tunnel book, I feel the piece visually and conceptually supports Stafford's message in his poem, 'A Ritual to Read to Each Other'--A plea for reliance on community and cooperation for peace and harmony"--Artist's statement from 23 Sandy Gallery website.

It started as a remembrance of my mother and expanded out to include my family, my neighborhood, my elementary school and my nervous stomach. Lists the names, death dates, locations of graves, serial numbers and decorations of 5,328 American dead and missing World War II soldiers who are memorialized at the cemetery, one of fourteen such cemeteries in Europe.

"Dirt animated with life in the form of fungus, microbes, and bugs, is transformed into soil, the substrate upon which we reside. 'Soil Dwellers' is a collaborative work inspired by insects that work the earth. Emilie Bess served up insect lore and language while carving what's below. Emily Van Kley's words lifted what's underneath into view. Wondering what kind of sound comes from underground, Melanie Valera burrowed below the surface to write the musical score. Catherine Alice Michaelis marked paper with plants and handset type. She designed a structure, segmented and articulated, a place for our broodings to dwell. Tahrir Square in Cairo became the focal point and the most effective symbol of the protests in January and February 2011. For 18 days Egyptians repeated the slogan: The People Want to Bring down the Regime (al-sha`b yurid isqat al-nizam) until the regime stepped down on the 11th of February 2011. This book focuses on the revolution slogan 'al-sha`b yurid isqat al-nizam.' Using Arabic Kufic script the words of the slogan are repeated in an ascending sequence. Section 19 contains the English translation for the slogan 'The People Want to Bring down the Regime.' The last section contains the time and date when the regime stepped down along with the sentence 'Al Saa'b Askat al Nezam' with its English translation 'The People have Brought down the Regime'. Cairo's map is laser engraved on the book covers.
