Reference files contain newspaper clippings, brochures, flyers, photographs, correspondence, and similar materials that document the activities and history of departments, programs, events, etc. at the University of Louisville; they complement the other university records held by Archives and Special Collections. Information on individual buildings, statues, and similar structures are available in a separate series of reference files, the University of Louisville Building Reference Files.
Files vary considerably in size, from just a few newspaper clippings to several folders of clippings, letters, memos, photographs, etc. The University Archives began collecting reference materials in its earliest days, in the 1970s, but many individual items are of earlier origin.
The reference files in this guide are listed in alphabetical order. You can browse alphabetically by clicking on the tabs, or search all folder titles using the search box below the tabs.
The files are available onsite in the Archives and Special Collections department. For information on visiting the Archives, see our Archives User's Guide page. The Archives can be reached by telephone at 502.852.6752, or by email.
