For this assignment, you will locate a current event from a reliable news source and analyze the event using course materials.

Finding Sources

General News Sources

  • Access World News (under Recommended Databases here)
    • This databases contains a comprehensive collection of reliable news sources from across the country.
    • Click Hot Topics on the right side of the page, then choose Current Events. You'll see an overview of each current event with suggested search strings for finding more on that event. Click on the hyperlinked search string to find articles about the event.
  • New York Times (click the link to New York Times via ProQuest on this page
    • In the Publication Date drop-down, select "Last 7 Days" (or a different time period you're interested in). Click search to view all of the news from that time period.
    • You can browse by title or refine your search by adding keywords referring to a specific event to the search box at the top of the page (e.g. omicron variant)
  • Louisville Courier-Journal (click the link to US Newsstream on this page)
    • Click the three lines in the top left corner next to U.S. Newsstream and select Publications
    • In the search box type exactly this: Courier-Journal
    • Choose the second link for the Louisville Courier-Journal
    • Under Choose an Issue to View, select the newest issue (or another issue you're interested in). Click View Issue.
    • Browse article titles or add keywords to the "Search within this issue" box (e.g. police)

Feminist News Sources

  • Ms. Magazine
    • UofL only has print copies of this title from 1973-1978. If you find an article on the Ms. Magazine website that you cannot access, talk to a librarian about requesting a copy of the article.
  • Autostraddle
    • Click the News heading at the top of the page.
  • Feministing
    • Scroll down to Hot Topics on the right and choose News.
