COB DEI Toolkit

Resources College of Business faculty can use to enhance DEI content in their courses and scholarship.

Welcome from the Business Librarian and COB Community & Engagement Committee

The College of Business DEI Toolkit was produced as a collaboration between the College of Business Community & Engagement Committee and Alexandra Howard, the Business & Entrepreneurship Librarian and Engaged Learning Coordinator for University Libraries. The resources in the toolkit were compiled based on the results of a 2022 Faculty DEI Academic Integration survey conducted by the COB DEI Committee. 

Navigating the Toolkit

  • Student Engagement provides resources on inclusive pedagogy and welcoming practices in the classroom for diverse students.
  • Curriculum Development provides resources that faculty can use to integrate DEI into course content. 
  • Librarian Services describes the DEI consultation services provided by the Business Librarian for COB faculty.

Glossary

  • Diversity - "Diversity embraces all human differences while building on the commonalities that bind us together. It serves to eliminate discrimination, marginalization, and exclusion based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, age, socioeconomic status, disability, religion, national origin, military status, diversity of thought and political ideology."
  • Equity - "The term 'equity' refers to fairness and justice and is distinguished from equality: Whereas equality means providing the same to all, equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place and must acknowledge and make adjustments to imbalances. The process is ongoing, requiring us to identify and overcome intentional and unintentional barriers arising from bias or systemic structures."
  • Inclusion - "AAC&U describes inclusion as the intentional, ongoing, active institutional efforts to reap the educational benefits of diversity. On a campus, inclusion means having a valued voice, seeing others like you represented around you and in the curriculum, and knowing that you belong and matter based on how you experience the environment and your interactions with others."
