Accessibility Services: Home

Accessibility Services exists to help users with disabilities take advantage of library resources and services. This service extends to all users of the library, including non UofL students and those who have only a temporary problem which makes library access difficult. The staff will work with these users to help them access library materials, retrieve books and periodicals, make photocopies, and download or scan materials. The Libraries also provide adaptive technology.

To request assistance or reserve any of the adaptive equipment, please contact the Access and User Services Technology Desk at 502.852.5260. If no one is available please contact the AUS West Desk at 502.852.6757.

The University Libraries are committed to service and accessibility and will work with users on an individual basis in any of the libraries as-needed. Services are regularly available Monday through Friday but arrangements can be made for evenings and weekends.

Policies & Services

Retrieval of Materials

  • You must provide a list, including call numbers, of the materials to be pulled for you.
  • Immediate retrieval of 5 or fewer items is available if time and staffing allow. Please make your request at the West Service Desk.
  • For a more extensive list of materials to be retrieved, please allow 24 hours. Lists should be submitted to the West Service Desk.

Photocopying & Scanning Services

  • The patron must provide citations and call numbers for all journal articles and call numbers and page numbers for all books.
  • Requests for photocopies or scans of materials should be submitted to Troy Plummer.
  • Requests are processed in the order in which they are received. The lead-time for a larger volume of copying/scanning depends on availability of staff and priority of order.
  • Photocopies may be picked up at the West Service Desk located on the first floor of the Ekstrom Library. The charge is 10 cents per page to any patron.

PDF Accessibility

Most library vendor PDFs should be accessible to screen readers, but sometimes they are not. The Libraries will create accessible PDFs for users who are registered with the UofL Disability Resource Center. Please contact Amber Willenborg for more information.
