After completing the module, students should be able to explain why inquiry is a fundamental aspect of the research process; formulate an initial exploratory search strategy appropriate for a particular research question; and generate a list of key words that will help them find relevant sources in search engines and library databases.

After completing the module, students should be able to recognize appropriate search tools for finding particular types of information sources, including articles and books from the library; conduct and refine information searches in library databases, based on research questions and relevant key words; and use search results to identify select themes or points of view in the "conversation" surrounding a particular research question.

After completing the module, students should be able to define and apply basic criteria for evaluating the credibility and relevance of particular information sources; explain the review processes for common types of information sources, including the peer review process for scholarly articles; and identify the key features of a typical scholarly article.
