Web Services: Projects

The Office of Web Services oversees the public web presence of the University of Louisville Libraries. They design the upper level pages of the site, train others in web development skills, and create interactive web tools to serve the needs of our users and staff.

Group Study Room Calendars

Requestor: Student Advisory Board

Create an easier to use calendar for reserving group study rooms in Ekstrom Library.

ASC Invoice Project

Requestor: Sherri Pawson, Archives & Special Collections

Create an online database to keep track of invoices for Archives & Special Collections.

Grawemeyer Music Database

Requestor: Music Library

Take data on winners of the Grawemeyer Award for Music and create a database that will 1) display to the public, 2) allow public to search or to filter by year or composer, 3) allow staff to update via webform, 4) automatically publish updates, and 5) be easy to use the public-facing regardless of device type.

Recently Completed

Oral History Center, Phase 2

Requestor: Heather Fox, Archives & Special Collections

Upgrade the Oral History Center site by 1) updating the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer, 2) adding summaries on individuals' pages, 3) showing number of results, 4) adding icon to certain screens to inform user that digitized version is online, 5) adding reproduction rights on each record, and 6) adding link to request that a particular interview be digitized.

Louisville Medical Students Database, Phase 2

Requestor: Lauren Robinson and Mary K. Marlatt, Kornhauser Health Sciences Library

Take the current site for Louisville Medical Students and improve it by: 1) adding search functionality, 2) adding a way to filter by gender or school, 3) creating a way to edit the database in a way that automatically publishes the updates, and 4) improving the user experience and mobile display.

Personnel Directory

Requestor: Melissa Laning, University Libraries Human Resources

Create a directory system that 1) is on a secure server, 2) allows chosen admins to add/edit/delete entries, 3) allows individuals to edit their own entries, 4) includes all directory information, 5) includes a search function, 6) includes filtering options by library and job function, and 7) includes responsive interface so that it’s easy to use for both desktop and mobile users.

Oral History Center Site

Requestor: Heather Fox, Archives & Special Collections

Created a website for the Oral History Center that 1) links to metadata and sound files in the Oral History Metadata Synchronizer (OHMS), 2) has the capability to search and browse metadata, and 3) allows easy access to Fox to upload new metadata and sound files.


ASC Online Registration

Requestor: Kyna Herzinger, Archives and Special Collections

Create a system that streamlines the registration process for ASC visitors. This will result in: less paperwork for visitors, and fewer paper files to be maintained by archivists.


Frequently Asked Questions Revamp

Requestor: Web Management Team

Move the Frequently Asked Questions into the primary public website (via LibGuides) creating a system that allows content to be maintained in one spot, but displayed in a variety of contexts throughout the site. This project will also include streamlining and updating the answers.
