Web of Science: Author h-Index

Calculating a Scholar's h-index

The h-index of a scholar measures their productivity and the impact of their publications. Follow the steps below to find an author's h-index, and view the demonstration video to see an h-index search in action.

On the Web of Science homepage, enter the name of the author whose h-index you're searching for. If possible, add some other piece of identifying information (e.g. the institution name or location in the Address field). Click Search.

On the results page, browse through titles to ensure you have the correct author. Then, click Create Citation Report on the right-hand side of the screen.

The Citation Report will show you the author's h-index as well as overall metrics and citation information for individual works.
