Characteristics of Scholarly Articles

How do you determine if an article is a scholarly source of information? With a partner, develop a list of at least four qualities you look for in a scholarly article. Be prepared to explain your answers.

When you have your list, post it here by double-clicking anywhere on the page.

Questions to Answer while Searching for Sources

  1. Using a general or subject-specific database, find a relevant scholarly article using the keywords you and your partner generated earlier in class for your research question. Write down or e-mail yourself the citation.
  2. Read the abstract of the article you selected. How does the article relate to your research question? Does it introduce any new questions for you, or point you in any new directions? Why or why not?
