The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is used by the U.S. government to classify business establishments when collecting, analyzing, and publishing statistical data related to the U.S. economy.  This six-digit coding system was developed in conjunction with Canada and Mexico in 1997 to replace an earlier four-digit Standard Industrial Classification (SIC), but both systems are still in use today. These codes can be used to help locate industry data in a variety of resources.
