"Simulating the format of mapping the "Sunset strip" of 1966 by Ed Ruscha, this bookwork formally mimics the Ruscha book by shooting every building on 107th Street ... in a 7-foot photomontage"--Umbrella. Includes essays "Memory and the sublime: looking for the Jersey devil" by Charles Gaines; "Neither are they slums" by Lynell George; and "Photography as the beginning of history: the photographs of Edgar Arceneaux" by Vincent Johnson. Volume 2 is a continuous sequence of photographs of the street, folded accordion-style (as is vol. 1). Issued in white wrappers printed in silver; both volumes in glossy white cardboard slipcase.
