Kentucky Vital Statistics Online
This page provides links to Kentucky vital statistical information available online. One source is the genealogical site Rootsweb, which contains a searchable database of Kentucky deaths from 1911 to 2000.
Another source is a database containing Kentucky vital statistical information available online at the University of Kentucky. This database contains copies of indexes of Kentucky deaths from 1911 through 1986, Kentucky deaths from 1987 through 1992, Kentucky marriages from 1973 through 1993, and Kentucky divorces from 1973 through 1993. The marriages file, however, is missing the years 1984 and 1985.
A limited searching capability is provided for the UK indexes at their index Website. Searches should be made as specific as possible. Persons searching common names may have difficulty seeing relevant matches to their requests.
There are known problems with the data from both sources as well. (See the information UK provides.) In some cases, researchers may find looking at the indexes themselves more helpful. Microfiche copies of the birth and death indexes, from 1911 on, are available for research at the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives and the Kentucky Historical Society, both located in Frankfort, Kentucky's capital, approximately fifty miles southeast of Louisville. Both KDLA and the KHS also have microfilm copies of the actual death certificates from 1911 to 1944.
Additional information on the collection of vital statistics in Kentucky is available from KDLA.
