Mission and Goals
The University Archives and Records Center (UARC) is the official memory of the University of Louisville, one of the oldest municipal universities in the United States. As a research repository of national significance, it also acquires, preserves, and makes available for scholarly use primary and secondary source material relating to the history of the Louisville metropolitan area.
The primary goals of UARC are to
- Preserve the permanent records of the university for legal, administrative, and historical purposes;
- Administer the university's records management program, using two records centers on the edge of the Belknap Campus;
- Oversee U of L's compliance with federal and state records laws, such as those governing public access to university records and the privacy of student records;
- Acquire and preserve primary source materials on all facets of the life of the University and the Louisville metropolitan area;
- Administer U of L's Oral History Center.
