Biography

Herman Landau was born April 12, 1911 in Louisville, KY. Landau enlisted in the army during World War II, and wrote about his experiences while serving. Upon returning to Louisville, he wrote for both the Courier-Journal and the Louisville Times. Landau was very active in the Jewish community in Louisville serving as leader of the Jewish Social Service Agency, the Jewish Family and Vocational Service, and the Jewish Community Federation. Through Landau's involvement with the Jewish Community Center he conducted extensive research on local Jewish heritage. In 1961 he published Adath Louisville: The Story of a Jewish Community. Landau occasionally published articles up until his death on December 28, 2006.
