Subject v. Keyword Searching

To search by subject usually means to use "official" words to describe your topic. For example, when you search in the yellow pages for doctors, it might say, "See Physicians". Physicians is the official subject word that the phone book uses to describe all kinds of doctors.

In the same way, most article databases and library catalogs (like Minerva), have official subject word lists. These can be very helpful in finding all the articles or books on a particular topic, such as Turkey (the country, not the bird).
