Choosing a database

what
Here are some suggestions on how to choose a database:

  1. Use a subject guide
    - look for the "Subject Guides" link on the library's homepage,
    - choose the topic that's closest to what you're researching, and
    - choose a database from the "best bets for articles" list.

For example, if your topic is on women in prison, you might use the subject guide for Sociology which would recommend you search the database called Sociological Abstracts.

  2. Use a general database, like Ebsco Academic
    - click on "Subject Guides" on the library's homepage
    - choose "Multidisciplinary databases" from the left column

  3. Ask a librarian or your professor to recommend a database
    - use the "Databases A-Z" link on the library's homepage to locate the database.
