The American Pulp Magazine Collection, which also contains a few British and Canadian titles, has over 8000 issues ranging from 1895 – 1944. The bulk of the collection came in 1974, with a purchase of 10,000 duplicate issues held by UCLA.
Pulp magazines or “pulps” were an off shoot of the Civil War era dime novels. Like the dime novels, pulps were popular reading. Pulps were larger than the dime novels, typically 8 x 10 inches. Most pulps contain serialized stories written by popular authors of the time.
