An amazing interpretive center sits on the river bluff overlooking the 430- to 360-million-year-old fossil beds. Originally, the Falls of the Ohio boasted 550 acres of exposed fossil beds - such an impressive phenomenon that scientists, geologists, and paleontologists from around the world have traveled here to study them. An exhibit on early naturalists discusses some of those scientists, including John James Audubon, Rafinesque, Dr. George Greene, Dr. Ashel Clapp and more. $4 admission to the Interpretive Center. Access to the fossil beds is free.
  • Cave Hill Cemetery, at the intersection of Broadway and Baxter (an amazing collection of mortuary statues and trees; in late spring, look for the swans' nest along the streams - they build one the size of a Volkswagen - it's really something to see). Free.

  • Locust Grove - 516 Blankenbaker Lane - was home to Lucy Clark-Croghan, and one of the oldest and most historically important homes in the area. Lucy was the sister of General George Rogers Clark, who won all the land north of the Ohio River for the United States. She was the aunt to William Clark, the expedition partner to Merriwether Lewis during the Corps of Discovery. Lewis, Clark and their men stopped at the house on their return trip, displaying the wonders they had encountered in its ballroom. The house hosted visits from three presidents. Beautiful grounds, and a great historical center and gift shop. $6 Admission to history center and house. Admission to the grounds: Free.
