Summer READtrip

by Erin Gow on 2018-06-11T10:07:39-04:00 | 0 Comments

If you follow the decisions and arguments of the US Supreme Court, June is an exciting month as the session wraps up and the Court announces orders and opinions. What is the avid Supreme Court watcher to do for the rest of the summer though, after the recess begins? At the Law Library we recommend taking a READtrip through our collection of books and materials related to the US Supreme Court.

Law Reports
Summer makes the perfect time to catch up on reading some of the old decisions of the highest court in the US. Go straight to the source in the United States Reports, or browse the text of decisions online or in unofficial reporters produced by legal publishers Lexis or West.

Supreme Court Briefs
Dig into the details of interesting cases by looking at the briefs submitted to the Court with each case. As one of the few libraries in the country that receives copies of all US Supreme Court briefs, our collection can even help to fill gaps in access available through other resources like databases or microfilm. Find out more about our brief collection at: library.louisville.edu/law/blog/home/supreme-court-briefs.

Justice Biographies
For those who are more interested in the men and women who serve as Justices on the Supreme Court, rather than the details of cases themselves, why not check out one of our many biographies? We have books on Justices from throughout history as well as those who are still serving on the Court now. Just search our catalog for the name of your favorite Justice, or browse the shelves in the KF8745 range to find books on both famous and lesser known Justices.

So Much More
Sometimes, especially in summer, even reading biographies can seem like too much work. That’s when we recommend some of our more quirky titles, like Secret Lives of the Supreme Court for a lighthearted look at outlandish facts about Justices throughout history. For those in a culinary mood, Table for 9 provides recipes and stories about the meals enjoyed by Supreme Court Justices, so that you can eat like your favorite legal heroes.

Wherever your READtrip takes you, we hope you enjoy the journey!
