KENTUCKY UNION LIST OF SERIALS

About KULS:

The Kentucky Union List of Serials (KULS) is a compilation of 184,500 serial holdings from over 170 libraries throughout Kentucky. KULS is funded by a LSTA, Title III sub-grant from The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA) to the University of Louisville.

Publications which are appropriate for the KULS database include publications in any medium or format issued in successive parts. Monographs are generally not included in the union list.

In 1971 the Kentucky Union List of Serials was founded as a cooperative venture between the Information Referral Center of the University of Louisville and the Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives. Until 1992 the list was maintained on a local database program in order to produce microfiche catalogs for interlibrary loan applications.

Between 1992 and 1998 the KULS database was moved to OCLC's Union Listing Module. With the completion of this project the union listing records of participating Kentucky libraries can be accessed through OCLC cataloging and interlibrary loan systems. Since the fall of 1997 these records can also be accessed via OCLC's FirstSearch family of resources.

The KULS project is currently using several different reporting options for participating libraries to forward their serial holdings to the KULS office.
