Area Information

Local Attractions in Louisville are numerous at this time of year. We specifically chose this weekend so you could have the opportunity to visit and enjoy the 50th anniversary show of the St. James Court Art Fair, the areas premier juried fine arts and crafts show featuring over 650 artists and artisans. The Fair will be Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, October 6-8. Friday evening is the First Friday Gallery Hop. The first Friday of every month, Louisvilles new gallery district, the Art Zone along Main Street, is open late with free transportation provided by vintage trolleys.

Hard Rock Café Louisville,  Maker's Mark Bourbon House, Lucky Strike Lanes and many others are all available for your enjoyment at Fourth Street Live, just down the block from the Marriott. If you're in a sports minded mood, both the Louisville Slugger Museum and Louisville Slugger Field, the home of the Louisville Bats Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, are conveniently close by. If you want to enjoy what makes Louisville a river town, check out the River Walk and Waterfront Park. You'll also find the sternwheeler Belle of Louisville there. If you want to have a lot of fun with hands-on science activities or check out an IMAX flick, then the Louisville Science Center, on Main Street, is your choice destination. Or, if you'd like to see some of the United Kingdom's Royal Arms, or a gun owned by Theodore Roosevelt or find out more than you ever expected to know about historical weapons, check out the Frazier Historical Arms Museum next door to the Louisville Science Center. The newest destination to open downtown has to be the Muhammad Ali Center. Dedicated to the Greatest's work toward peace and tolerance, this site is definitely a must-see.

See what is being presented at Actors Theatre of Louisville, the Louisville Palace, or the Kentucky Center for the Arts. The Center for the Arts is home to our professional orchestra, opera, ballet, is also the venue for Broadway touring companies.

The racing season does not start until the end of the month at Churchill Downs, but casino gambling is just a few miles away across the river at Caesars Indiana. And if you really love horses you can visit the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

In addition to fast horses (and beautiful women), Kentucky is also famous for its bourbon distilleries. You can explore the Commonwealths Bourbon Trail on a lovely fall drive. Horses and bourbon not your thing, but you like factory tours? Check out the ones in our area listed at Factory Tours USA. Watching Louisville Slugger baseball bats being made is an enlightening experience for all ages!

This is by no means a complete list of downtown's interesting spots. The Hospitality Committee will be providing a local information booth near the registration desk, open the same house as registration, to help you find your way around town and to help coordinate hosted dinners.
