Renew an Item | Overdues | Holds | Library Cards
A valid University of Louisville identification card (Cardinal Card) must be presented to check out any item. Persons not associated with the University may apply at the Circulation Desk for a Community Borrower Card.

Items that are not overdue or on hold for someone else may be renewed. Community card borrowers may not renew online.
- RENEW Online via My Library Account
- Renew by Phone: Call 852-5771 during library hours.
- Renew In Person: Stop by the library with your Cardinal Card. You do not need to bring the items with you.
- When material is not returned by the date due, the patron's record is blocked and borrowing privileges are suspended.
- A reminder that overdue material has not been returned is mailed to you one week after it became overdue.
- After 14 days, if the item has not been returned, you will receive a bill for the full replacement and processing costs for each item that is still overdue. Charges will be removed once the material has been returned.
- A "hold" can be placed on items shown on Minerva - The Library Catalog as checked out. Journals, reserve items, and reference materials cannot be placed on hold.
- Complete an On-line Hold Form OR, ask for a form at the Circulation Desk.
- When the item is returned a notice will be sent to you. The item will be held for you at the Circulation Desk for one week.
- UofL students, staff and faculty Cardinal Cards serve as library borrower cards.
- Non-UofL persons, including Metroversity students, and residents of Kentucky and southern Indiana are eligible for a Community Borrower's Card with presentation of a valid, current driver's license or other official picture ID.
- Materials checked out with your card are your responsibility.
- Lost/Stolen Cardinal Card: Immediately contact the Campus Card Office at (502) 852-7520. If the theft occurred on campus, also contact the Department of Public Safety at (502) 852-6111.
- Lost Community Borrowers Card: Contact the Circulation desk on (502) 852-5771.
