Community Engagement: National Organizations

National Organizations

American Association for Higher Education (AAHEA) sets the standards for academia.  The American Association for Higher Education provides membership, Higher Education accreditation, degree, and program course information.  AAHEA also provides a listing of service-learning conferences, workshops, meetings and other events.

Association for Experiential Education is a professional organization dedicated to promoting experiential education for faculty and students.  It provides a wealth of resources for faculty and students in the area of experiential education.  The Association for Experiential Education serves as the host for the International Conference on Experiential Education and the Journal of Experiential Education, a peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to publishing works on service-learning, environmental education, and other areas of experiential education.

Campus Compact

Campus Compact is a national coalition of more than 1, 100 college and university presidents.  The role of Campus Compact is to promote community service, civic engagement, and service-learning.  The Campus Compact organization seeks to partner with college faculty, on both the national and local level to promote civic engagement with citizens and students.

Community Campus Partnership for Health  (CCHP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting health between the community and educational institutions.  CCHP promotes health through a variety of strategies including service-learning and community-based participatory research.  It supports authentic partnerships between the community and educational institutions.  CCHP provides a wealth of resources on scholarship of engagement, partnership development, and community-based participatory research among others.

International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement is the clearing house on the Scholarship of Engagement.  It sponsors the National Review Board for the Scholarship of Engagement, which provides peer review and evaluation of faculty's work in engagement.  It also provides consultation, training, and technical assistance to campuses on the scholarship of engagement.

 National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) serves as a national resource center for the advancement of experiential education.  NSEE supports experiential learning at all levels of education for the development of students in various ways.  It also hosts the annual conference on experiential education.
