Women's Manuscript Collections: Oral Histories

The University of Louisville's Archives and Special Collections has many collections that shed light on women's lives in Louisville through history. This guide highlights these materials, and provides a starting place for research.

Oral History Center interviews, 1968-ongoing

The Oral History Center contains over 2,100 taped recollections of university personnel, students, civic leaders, laborers, and business executives, dating from 1968 to the present. More than 500 of the taped interviews are with women subjects. The list below represents a subset of these interviews that focus on subjects relating to aspects of women's lives that are related to their identities as women: women in public life, women in the legal profession, female politicians, women in the military, women's clubs, and the like.

These interviews may all be accessed on-site in the Archives.

Audio Duplication

Tapes and CDs of interviews from the Oral History Center's collection may be obtained, unless prohibited by the donor agreement, for a fee of $10 per tape. Many interviews consist of several tapes so the total cost varies. For more information, visit our Order Reproductions page.
