Renewals

Books may be renewed one time before the due date if no hold or recall has been submitted for the item, and no library block exists on the borrowers' account. Renew items via your library account or by contacting artlib@louisville.edu. For overdue books or additional renewals, bring books to the Art Library for renewal.

Overdue, Lost, and Damaged Materials

When an Art Library item is 28 days overdue, a block is placed on the borrower’s library account. Library privileges are suspended until either the return of the book or, in cases where the book is lost or damaged, the payment of replacement fees.

The replacement fee for lost or damaged materials is $175 per item. This includes a $25 processing fee.

Fees may be reflected on the patron's account as two separate fees (i.e. a charge of $80 plus an additional charge of $95, adding up to a total of $175 per lost or damaged book).

Items lost due to extenuating circumstances (i.e. items lost due to fire, theft, flood, etc.) must be documented in the form of a police report or an insurance claim and provided to the Director of Bridwell Art Library. Fee waivers for these items lost will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Patrons may not purchase a copy of the book as a replacement.

A refund in the amount of $150 is allowed in the event a library item is found within 30 days after payment has been made. No refunds will be given after 30 days.

Fees are payable by credit card via the online payment form. The Art Library does not accept cash.

Non-Circulating Materials

The following materials cannot be checked out:

  • Magazines and Journals
  • Information and Artist File folders
  • Reference Books
  • Reserve Books
  • Theses and Dissertations
  • Rare Books
  • Ex-Folios
  • Artists' Books

Recalls

Any UofL student or employee may ask for an item to be recalled for their use.

Speak with an Art Library employee to request a recall.

No book will be recalled within 14 days after the initial checkout.

Once recalled, books must be returned to avoid overdue blocks on library accounts.
