The Photographic Archives holds a number of collections relating to Roy E. Stryker, one of the most prominent figures in the development of American documentary photography, including his personal papers and two documentary projects he directed. The Roy Stryker Papers include photographs, shooting scripts, and correspondence from his time as director of the Farm Security Administration documentary photography project during the New Deal era. The Standard Oil (New Jersey) collection consists of over 80,000 images shot for the oil company by many of the same photographers Stryker employed for the FSA project. And the Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation collection represents the last major documentary project headed by Stryker.
