Evelyn J. Schneider Endowed Chair for Scholarly Communication

The estate of a longtime university librarian provided this endowment in 1997. It was the first endowed library chair in Kentucky. The fund was doubled through the state's Research Challenge Trust Fund. The chair holder provides leadership and guidance in scholarly communication, copyright law and fair use in addition to shaping state and national policies related to these issues.

Evelyn J. Schneider was the College of Arts and Sciences' librarian from 1919 - 27 and university librarian from 1927 until her retirement in 1965. She was the consulting librarian when Ekstrom Library was built. Schneider Hall, which housed the university libraries until 1981 and now house the Department of Fine Arts and the Art Library, was named in her honor in 1978.
