MKT 490 - Retail Management: Industry Profiles & Overviews

Industry Profiles and Reports

♦  MarketLine Reports @ Business Source® Premier  UofL Libraries Electronic Database
Summary and analyses of key metrics, trends and forecasts for category, subsegments and leading companies.

Select Industry Profile from drop down list under Publication Type.   Enter NAICS code in designated box lower on the page, or industry name in main search box at top.

♦  Hoover’s™ Industry Snapshots @ LexisNexis® Academic  UofL Libraries Electronic Database
Brief (1-2 pg.) industry overviews listing key players, competitors, rankings, associations, and publications.

Click on Search by Content Type drop down arrow at top. &nbsp Select Company Profiles under Companies.   On the next screen click on the Advanced Options drop down arrow under the main search box.   Select "Hoover's Company and Industry Reports."  Click on red Apply box.   Type "retail" in the search box, hit search, and narrow results by clicking on "Industry Directories & Profiles" in the column on the left.   
Click on Search by Content Type drop down arrow at top.   Select Dossiers (Company, Executive & Industry) under Companies.   On the next screen click on the Industry tab at the top.   Enter industry keyword in "Terms" box, SIC code in "SIC" box, or select "Browse Industry Hierarchy" tab at top and then expand "Division G" to find particular industry groups within "Retail Trade."

♦  First Research and BMI Industry Reports via ProQuest (ABI/INFORM Complete™)  UofL Libraries Electronic Database
Brief reports on about 200 industries.

Click Browse under ABI/INFORM Complete title at top.  Select First Research under Industry and Market Research heading.  Scroll down to "Retailing industry." Click "view documents." On next page, click "Search within" (next to number of results at top) to narrow search by retail specialty (e.g., food, hardware, etc.).
Click Data & Reports under ABI/INFORM Complete title at top. Remove checks from boxes in front of "All company research" and "All market research". Check "Industry reports" box. Type "United States" in the "Location" box and "Retail industry" in the "Industry" box. Search can be narrowed by adding a retail specialty (e.g. grocer, grocery, clothing, etc.) in search box at top. You may also want to limit the publication date.

Current environment, trends, profile, operations, statistics, financial ratios, references and comparative company analyses for 53 North American industries, including "Retailing: General" and "Retailing: Specialty," are updated twice a year.

Trade association websites frequently contain or provide links to reports, data, and other information relevant to specific industries. Names of key trade associations can usually be found in industry and company profiles. These sites provide links to some of the many trade associations in the U.S.
